The client, Al Apodaca of Akamai Grocery Shopping and Delivery Service, started with Hawaii PTAC in April 2010. Initially, Al received assistance in putting a proposal together. He has used the lessons he learned then in preparing all his proposals going forward. Al said with each proposal and then winning awards, his confidence has grown. Al also uses Hawaii PTAC’s bidmatch service to look at solicitations that are available.

Just two months after registering with Hawaii PTAC, Akamai Grocery won its first award. Since then, they have won about twenty awards. Most recently, Al won an award from the US Department of Justice Federal Bureau of Prisons for the Federal Detention Center in Honolulu. This award of $8,059.14 is for fourth quarter subsistence of dry, frozen, and meat products.

Client Comments
We were new to owning a small business in 2009 and had no experience in dealing with corporate or government entities. During a series of Small Business workshops I attended, the organization HI-PTAC always came up. It was said that they were an excellent resource to assist companies like mine to make inroads in securing contracts.

I contacted them as we approached a deadline to submit a proposal for a federal contract bid. The assistance I received made me confident to know that we were able to compete in a field that was unknown to us at the time.

Since then, the confidence we used in the initial first bid has grown tremendously. We will continue to seek guidance for future endeavors. Mahalo, HI-PTAC!
